Dr. Abdullah Al Mamun Choudhury is an Associate Professor of Orthopedics at the National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), Dhaka — Bangladesh's premier institute for orthopedic and trauma care. His clinical and academic focus is spine surgery, including thoracolumbar and cervical trauma, degenerative spine disease, spinal deformity, spinal tuberculosis, and tumors of the spine.
He is an active researcher with 16 publications in international and national journals including Cureus, the Journal of Clinical Orthopaedics and Trauma, and the Journal of Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons, with work spanning fusion versus non-fusion strategies for burst fractures, anterior cervical approaches, scoliosis correction, and anesthesia strategies in lumbar surgery.
Alongside surgery and research, he trains postgraduate orthopedic surgeons at NITOR and contributes to national and international orthopedic and spine societies.

Dr. Choudhury's training in orthopaedic and spine surgery has been extensive and highly specialized. It included the distinct privilege of working under the direct supervision of Professor Dr. Md. Shah Alam, a renowned spine surgeon in Bangladesh, which laid a strong foundation for his expertise.
His commitment to advancing his skills is reflected in his participation in international spine-surgery training programs across India, South Korea, and Malaysia, engaging with highly reputable organizations in the field:
A significant highlight of his subspecialty training is endoscopic spine surgery under Professor Kangtaek Lim at AIN Hospital, South Korea, a recognized pioneer in the field. His skills in endoscopic and microscopic spinal surgery were further refined through advanced training with Professor Christoph Siepe and Professor Christoph Mehren at Schön Klinik, Munich, Germany, solidifying his proficiency in cutting-edge techniques. Extensive training in scoliosis at UMMC, Malaysia — under Professor Dato' Kwan Mun Keong and Professor Chris Chan, as part of the APSS–UMMC fellowship — adds a further pillar to his deformity-correction surgery.
Dr. Choudhury has actively pursued extensive post-master's and post-fellowship training, demonstrating a continuous commitment to specialized knowledge and skill development in orthopaedics and spine surgery.
In 2018, he attended the APSS Dhaka Spine Operative Course at NITOR, Dhaka. In 2019, he undertook the AO Trauma: Basic Principles of Fracture Fixation course at BRAC Inn Center, Dhaka, and the AO Spine Principal Course – Anatomy of Fixation, Dhaka.
He completed the APSS–DePuy Synthes Virtual Fellowship (1 November – 25 December 2021), followed by the AO Spine Principal Course – Scoliosis, Dhaka (July 2022), and the APSS Basic Spine Cadaveric Course, Dhaka (October 2022). International exposure was further enhanced by the Korean Spine Society Conference in Incheon, Seoul, South Korea (17–22 May 2022).
In 2023, he engaged in a diverse range of specialized seminars and advanced training, including the AO Spine Seminar – Degenerative Lumbar & Cervical Spine Disease at Holiday Inn, Dhaka; the AO Alliance – Pelvis & Acetabulum Seminar in Cox's Bazar; and the AO Alliance – Foot & Ankle Seminar in Dhaka. He solidified his fracture-management expertise by completing the AO Trauma: Advanced Principles of Fracture Fixation course in Chandigarh, India.
In 2024, he attended ASSICON 2024 in Mumbai, India. In 2025, his training includes a 4-week AO Spine Fellowship at Schön Klinik, Munich, Harlaching, Germany, and a 1-week APSS–UMMC Fellowship at the University of Malaya Medical Center, Malaysia, along with participation in the APSS-APPOS-MSS Scientific Congress 2025 at Shangri-La, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He also attended and presented three articles at the APSS Scientific Congress in Cebu, Philippines, this year.
